On the morning of Thursday, November 28, Thanksgiving Day, former Representative Joe Walsh (R-IL) appeared on CNN’s “This Morning” to criticize President-elect Donald Trump. During his segment, he urged Americans to enjoy the holiday while preparing for a forthcoming wave of “disinformation, cruelty, and lies” from Trump.
Walsh specifically addressed Trump’s assertion that he had pressured Mexican President Sheinbaum to curb mass migration into the United States by threatening significant tariffs if she failed to stop illegal immigration. He contended that Trump was being dishonest and that Sheinbaum would not acquiesce to his demands.
In making this assertion, Walsh overlooked the fact that Trump had successfully negotiated a “Remain in Mexico” policy during his first term. He stated, “He’s lying. I do not wish to endure four years of this. America must come to terms with the reality that we have re-elected someone who lies with every utterance. That is indisputable.”
Walsh continued to assert that Trump was misrepresenting his policy accomplishments, disregarding the previous success of the “Remain in Mexico” initiative and Sheinbaum’s indications that a deal might be possible. He remarked, “This is the tactic he employs. He threatens to take action unless he receives what he wants. He may not achieve his objectives, yet he falsely claims victory.”
Maintaining his critical stance towards Trump, Walsh escalated his rhetoric, alleging without substantiation that Trump was being untruthful regarding the agreement with Mexico. He declared, “And now, look, Mexico is supposedly going to implement something entirely new. Nonsense this Thanksgiving. I held back my words. Jim, he’s lying, plain and simple.”
At this point, host Jim Acosta, known for his anti-Trump sentiments, interjected to criticize Trump ally Elon Musk, labeling him a “cyber bully.” He remarked, “He claims he will be involved in this DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, targeting government…”
In his response, Walsh aligned himself with the criticism of Elon Musk, overlooking Musk’s evident intelligence and discernment, which are evidenced by his remarkable achievements in challenging, real-world industries. Instead, Walsh labeled him a “purveyor of disinformation,” asserting, “It’s different. He’s the wealthiest man on the planet. He has the biggest platform on the planet, and he’s the greatest purveyor of disinformation on the planet.”
Furthermore, he took the opportunity to deliver another disparaging remark about Trump during Thanksgiving, urging the public to prepare for years characterized by “cruelty” and deceit, seemingly disregarding the challenges faced during the previous four years of the Biden Administration. Rep. Walsh stated regarding the potential future Trump administration, “Enjoy your Thanksgiving, America, but we all have to buckle up. This is going to be four years of disinformation, cruelty, and lies.”
